Johnnie Mae Culbreath

Johnnie Mae Culbreath was born on October 12, 1924, in Walton County, Georgia, to
the late Mr. Eddie Biggs and the late Mrs.Clara Bell Malcom-Biggs. She was the
embodiment of strength, resilience, and love throughout her long and impactful life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Purcell Culbreath, as well as
her siblings: Willie Biggs, Randolph Biggs, Eddie Alvin Biggs, K.C. Biggs, Mary Ellen
Whitlock, Bobbie Heard, and Precious Mitchell. She also mourned the loss of her
children: Mae Willie Gray, Charles Culbreath, Edward Culbreath, Robert Culbreath,
Curtis Culbreath, W.L. (Bill) Culbreath Sr., Sharon Johnson, and Dale Culbreath.
Johnnie Mae was educated at Good Hope School in her hometown. From an early age,
she showed a love for learning, community, and family. She gave her life to Christ at a
young age and became a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Good Hope,
Georgia. Later in life, after relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, she joined Stanton Grove
Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia, where she remained a faithful member for many
years.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother,
Johnnie Mae’s home was always full of laughter, delicious food, and stories. She was
known for her impeccable style, always sharply dressed and elegant, and for being an
animated storyteller who could captivate a room with her wit and vivid recollections.
Johnnie Mae had a deep love for classic Western television shows and movies, finding
joy in their timeless stories. She also had a passion for fishing, a hobby that brought her
peace and pleasure. She cherished laughter, treasured good company, and could often
be found enjoying a lively game of pitty-pat. Most of all, she valued time spent with her
family, especially children, with whom she shared wisdom, humor, and boundless love.
On September 26, 2025, at the blessed age of 100, Johnnie Mae Culbreath was
peacefully called home to eternal rest. Though she has departed from this world, her
legacy of love, joy, and perseverance lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know
her.
She leaves to cherish in her memory: her loving siblings, Joe Biggs, Bernice Harris,
Minister Minnie Jean Biggs, and Sally Cooper; her devoted children: Clara Nell Moon,
Mary John Witchett, Alice Faye Culbreath, and Mr. and Mrs. Gene (Eugenia) Culbreath;
along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and many dear friends.
Her humor, wisdom, and radiant spirit will forever be missed and fondly remembered.
